When one generation of youth moves into a city, a generation of retired elderly has to leave. However, should they need to abandon their hometown in search of a retirement destination away from their family?
This project aims to bring back a lost generation to Shanghai, while mixing them with the existing population in the city center. It consists of a tower that provides housing for the senior citizens, work space for their children and a school for their grandchildren. On top of that, there will be communal spaces that will link and spark social interactions between 3 separated demographics. By providing these programs, emotional and physical connections between all groups can be strengthened without altering their lives.
The building brings in success from traditional Chinese architecture, where strong family values was once practiced. This along with the use of suitable geometries, flexible floor spaces and program arrangements will set to create an environment where 3 generations of families can once again spend time together.
