Chongqing is one of the four major municipalities in China at the same administrative level as Beijing and Shanghai. Now, the speed of urban renewal of Central District of Chongqing (Yuzhong District) cannot keep pace with the speed of economic development, resulting in the a dramatic situation which two different social groups are about to create different patterns of appreciation for the same piece of land. These two different social groups are the fintech elites who follow the industrial upgrading and converge in the city center and the old town’s indigenous people who still adopt the old way of life.
For this situation, this project selects one of the most potentially dramatic sites in Chongqing’s Yuzhong District and attempt to envision the harmonious coexistence of different social groups. Here, the indigenous people will improve the working environment of the elite. At the same time, the elite will take root here as practitioners of urban renewal.
