In the context of a global pandemic that has accelerated the tendency of virtualizing the workplace and highlighted the importance of urban public space, the proposal is a tower in which private and public coexist in a single entity. For this, I will re-adapt 30 St Mary Axe located in the City of London, to create more open and flexible workspaces for remote workers and entrepreneurs tucked away in between pockets of public space that range from ground level to top level.
By challenging the notion that only private and restricted space tends to expand vertically, the building will become more permeable to integrate its urban ecosystem and demand change for hermetically sealed office towers that only serve their inhabitants.
As the world turns more virtual, the tower advocates a return to physical human connection through public space.
