The structure of an organization - Flat Vs. Hierarchical - determines the character of its lines of communication, policies, authority and responsibilities. Traditional and established hierarchical organizations commonly suffer from lack of communication across departments, top-down policies detached from the realities of the employees, often multiple levels of middle-management and narrow, unfulfilling day-to-day responsibilities.
My project aims to intervene in Tower 42 in the city of London and introduce a new workspace geared towards facilitating or inducing an environment for flat as opposed to a hierarchical workspace and organization by altering individual, often constrained, and disconnected workspaces and floor plates into multilevel interconnected platforms suitable foe individua as well as collective work.
My hybrid system focuses on the interaction between a fix driving grid and malleable materials resulting informations of varying size, density, volume and aesthetic qualities. Using the existing envelope grid of tower 42, and the relationship between each petal in plan, I am to emulate and replicate some of the qualities of the hybrid system to generate a new form of workspace experience.
