The project will address the static response of the City of London by critically deconstructing Tower 42 skin and bones, veins, and flows to form interventions below, within, around, or above the existing introducing new hybrid social, programmatic, and formal compositions suitable for today’s fused Live/work/play/educate circumstances.
This intervention aims to bring a Vertical Research Centre focused on Sustainability, both research and practice into Tower 42, an already existing office tower in the heart of City of London By providing differentiated laboratories, workshops, and testing facilities for engineers, botanists, scientists, and students among others. The facilities are to be used by multiple sectors and industries to foster much-needed Inter-disciplinary collaboration currently unavailable and hindering progress.
The Hybrid system developed focuses on the application of a series of controlled patterns, their effect on light, ventilation, and porosity, and its flexibility to grow, bend, and twist to allow for differentiated environments needed for research, testing, and collaboration.
