The office towers in the City of London are the result of a repetitive stack of a typical plan which is a product of a bygone supervised working environment and physical processing and documentation of information. Advances in remote work technology and virtual collaboration and communication have made this arrangement obsolete while still lacking the physical proximity and face-to-face communication necessary for collective progress.
My project sets within 30 St Mary Axe in the city of London. The iconic tower will soon be covered by neighbouring developments, reducing the attractiveness of the building. The overshadowing disadvantage can become an opportunity to transform the tower into an agora-type workspace that is open to the City, allows interconnection of teams, companies, facilitates a greater flow of knowledge and information to an expanding audience while establishing a stronger connection to the public realm.
The hybrid system of controlled inflatables tested and calibrated merge into interlocked clusters negotiating with the existing building to enable a creative working environment for the generation of knowledge base workers.
