The project aims to transform Somerset House into a cultural hub that attracts a diverse range of visitors, fostering direct engagement with its creative culture. This initiative is designed to support and nurture the growth of the existing art community within Somerset House.
A key feature of the redesign is the incorporation of a vortex structure across all building levels, which aims to eliminate the exclusiveness typical of Victorian spatial configurations. This architectural strategy promotes greater accessibility and interaction within the historical setting, all the while preserving the integrity of traditional Victorian architecture.
The idea is achieved by curating an experience for visitors, where they naturally come across various exhibitions of different scales on their path to the rooftop lounge.
Additionally, the development of new exhibition spaces, designed to accommodate more diversified works such as digital art and large-scale installations, allows Somerset House to host a more varied range of art mediums.
